We develop IdHub, an identity management system for internet activist communities and citizens that pool and share infrastructure for the management and cost-sharing of digital open content services and circular device management.
The administrator of one organisation imports an Excel file with a set of columns (a credential schema) in their IdHub instance with information including claims about a list of people or organisations involved with them (such as members, staff, beneficiaries, students).
All of them receive an email to access to an identity wallet where then can find their enabled credentials ready to be issued at any time.
People can then visit third party (verifier) portals where they can include any of these credentials to identify themselves or apply to benefits based on the verifiable information included in their credentials signed by the issuer organisation. Check more details in the “About” section.
IdHub addresses the need for more decentralized, verifiable, secure, privacy-respecting, and user-friendly ways to manage identity-related information for authentication, authorization, and accreditation. The primary technologies implemented include Verifiable Credentials and OpenID Connect technologies within a common credential schema. These technologies allow for creating a trust chain that brings significant benefits to our community.
We have several pilot programs with communities and organisations such as Pangea.org, XO9B (with Fundació Pare Manel, eXO and SomConnexio), SETEM, LaFede.cat, and eReuse.org, to polish and demonstrate the system’s capabilities in different contexts.
This development is supported by the Orchestral project, funded by the Trustchain Next Generation Internet project, open call 1.
